Day Four and Five: Ubud and Kuta

After two whole days of adventure in North and East Bali, we opted to take it easy on the 4th day. We took it slow in the morning, enjoyed breakfast in our villa, and then had the hotel drop us off at Ubud center to do a little shopping. Then we had a leisurely lunch break at the cozy Mudra cafe, where we had the best vegan benedict, a beautiful dragonfruit smoothie bowl, delicious avocado toasts, and a too beautiful to eat lavender creme brûlée.  Afterwards we walked back to our villa (about 20 minutes) and chilled out in our private pool for the rest of the afternoon.Cafe Mudra in UbudFor dinner, we walked to the cash-only organic Yellow Flower Cafe and ordered their version of shakshuka (stir fried tomatoes with egg), avocado toasts, and a Balinese vegetarian sampler dish. Then upon returning to our villa, a taxi driver picked us up to take us to Tamarind Spa for our spa reservation. Our night ended with relaxing foot massages, body scrubs, and flower baths.

Our 5th day was when we were to transfer to my Kuta hotel, Poppies.  We took the morning to pack and then eat lunch at the nearby Cafe Vespa.  The cafe lost power the moment we sat down, but luckily they were still able to cook most of the dishes on the menu.  We split the french toast, chicken caesar wrap, and a yummy warm pesto poached egg dish.

Our driver picked us up and took us to Tegal Wangi Beach in South Bali. Since my family had no interest in swimming the last day, Tegal Wangi was the perfect spot to visit because no swimming is allowed.  There is no entrance fee (one of the reasons I picked the place) and was not crowded. It’s a hidden gem perhaps because the path from the cliff to the actual beach area is challenging. - Tegal wangi beach

Next we headed back up to Kuta to DMZ (Dream Museum Zone), an interactive art gallery featuring a vast collection of 3D, life-size murals for visitors to pose and play with. It was much larger than we anticipated and we could have been in there for an hour if we were to pose with every single mural.

Finally we were dropped off at Poppies, a Balinese-style hotel near Kuta beach known for having its own slice of peaceful sanctuary within the bustling city. Instead of a room, guests have their own quaint cottage complete with a front porch where complimentary breakfast is served. I absolutely loved my cottage #17 (nearest to the pool).

The night concluded at the iconic garden-themed Poppies Restaurant, complete with an assortment of seafood, their special barbecued pork ribs, fish chowder, and a round of cocktails. IMG_1215
